Hello World!
It has been an EXTREMELY long time since I have posted- I guess I wasn't as diligent as I was hoping to be. But it's a new year, and I think that keeping up with more regular blog posts is a pretty good resolution!
After a lovely two week holiday break spent in New York and Buffalo, it was time to get on the road again- next stop, Omaha, Nebraska! I've never been to the Midwest before, and this is the first city in the Midwest that our tour will play. I didn't know what to expect, but it's been good so far! Well, besides that fact that it is SUPER cold, and I have a cold (the cold never bothered me anyway?). I've tried to be so health-and-sickness-conscious on tour, but I guess it was bound to happen. Medicine, tea, and other natural remedies have been my best friends the past couple of days, but I didn't want my cold to get me down- I had to explore a little!
On my day off yesterday, some friends and I braved the cold to see what they city has to offer- there's not much within walking distance of the hotel (and it was far too cold to go too far), but we stumbled upon some cute vintage shops and unique restaurants. One antique store featured huge rooms with items mostly paying homage to the 1950's- there was a movie theatre, arcade, candy store, furniture section, record station and mini fun house all in one. We needed a map to get through the store! One display in the store even featured Lady Gaga's piano from her "You and I" music video! Another highlight was stopping for cupcakes at a tiny but delicious shop. Dessert, you say? I'm in!
Today was the first day back to shows, and I sure did miss my favorite street! It was a little rough (my body sure enjoyed eating insane amounts of sponge candy and watching Hallmark movies last week...it didn't like me so much today) but being around so many positive and ready-to-work friends again made it a lot easier! The theatre was also gorgeous, and the crowds were fun- I'm so glad to be back and I'm ready for another exciting year!
When I first arrived in the Omaha Airport, a kind older lady and I engaged in a brief conversation. It ended with her giving me a sincere welcome to the city, and she hoped I would have a pleasant stay. I found our little exchange to be so uplifting considering the travel day I had. I was clearly sleep derived, struggling with my luggage, and torn between missing my family and missing my tour, and our chat was a friendly reminder of how people should be treated in busy situations. Waiting for luggage isn't an enjoyable task, and is it really worth trying to push people and bad-mouth them under their breath? (Ok, I know we've all had those thoughts and frustrations, but it amazes me at how verbal some people are!) Kindness can go a long way, and you never know what kind of day someone is having. I hope to make 2017 a kinder year, and that moment was definitely a good start.
Here's to a wonderful, kind, and adventure-filled year- on to the next city tomorrow!

No autographs, please. This was the display in the huge antique store!
The vintage movie theatre! You could even rent out the space, and the store had free showings (unfortunately none while I was in town).
Lady Gaga's piano!
Cupcakes. Need I say more? I had a Red Velvet- I was so sad after I ate it all!
Our show had a flyer at a local shop!
